Field Instructors

Odyssey Wilderness Programs seeks qualified and experienced individuals to participate in the Instructor Training (I.T.) held in April of each year. The Field Instructor is an essential part of the Odyssey program, leading groups during 14-day expeditions in both course areas of Coastal Hiking and Longboat Sailing. If you have outdoor education experience and current wilderness medical training, applying to the I.T. and becoming an Odyssey Field Instructor could be the ideal job opportunity. Prerequisites: Field Instructors must successfully complete the Instructor Training prior to employment. If the annual I.T. has already taken place, instructors may be hired as Instructors in Training.

WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER (WFR)

Odyssey Wilderness Programs reimburses half to full tuition costs of WFR courses to Field Instructors who do not have a current WFR certification. Field Instructors must work 3 complete 14-day courses to receive 50% reimbursement and work 6 complete 14-day courses to receive 100% reimbursement. LONGBOAT SAILING CAPTAINS

Odyssey Wilderness Programs is hiring USCG licensed Captains to lead 14-day Longboat Sailing expeditions in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. Odyssey Longboats are the ideal platform for outdoor education, wilderness therapy and for bringing a group of individuals together as a rich and diverse community. Longboat expeditions inspire growth and discovery, and offer individuals the opportunity to spend a summer sailing and mentoring groups of adolescents. Use your skills and strengths of sailing to be apart of the Odyssey community and gain valuable experience in our highly therapeutic environment.

Prerequisites: Licensed Captains must hold a valid 100-ton Masters License, attend the Orientation section of the I.T., and complete at least one 14-day course as an Assistant Captain.

FIELD THERAPIST

Odyssey Wilderness Programs hires Licensed Therapists to facilitate individual and group therapy to students and families enrolled in the program. The Field Therapist role is diverse and includes using skills of an outdoor educator, field leader, mentor, and using the wilderness to promote healing, growth and success. Licensed individuals will find a supportive network of professionals in the Odyssey program and be surrounded by experience and a program that values family and community. Prerequisites: The Field Therapist must hold a Graduate Degree in Counseling Psychology, and WA State Licensure is preferred.

FIELD MANAGER

Odyssey Wilderness Programs is looking for a qualified, experienced and motivated individual to manage field operations and the Logistics Department. This is a management level position and requires excellent communication and leadership skills. The Odyssey Field Manager enjoys a balance between organizational work in the office and field work where they have direct contact with Field staff and students. The Field Manager also facilitates field-based training seminars throughout the year and must have exemplary wilderness skills. If you are looking for a job that will utilize your strengths of organizational management, leadership and communication skills, the Field Manager position could be a great fit for you.

Prerequisites: The Field Manager must have a minimum of two years experience in a management position and be highly competent in wilderness living and risk management practices.

LOGISTICS COORDINATOR

Odyssey Wilderness Programs hires Logistics Coordinators to fulfill transportation needs, assist in course packing and take weekly inventory of program gear and provisions. The Logistics Coordinator has an important and unique role in the Odyssey program - to coordinate the many logistics and communication between each part of the program and to support the logistical operations in the field. This role requires individuals to be highly organized, have excellent communication skills and have an orientation toward community and working together to achieve common goals. Logistics Coordinators will find the Odyssey program to be dedicated to its employees and a workplace that values each person's unique strengths and abilities.
